Many of our patients in the Philadelphia area have experienced for themselves what BOTOX® injections can do to help turn back the clock on their aging skin. Some facial wrinkles are formed by underlying muscles that allow us to make facial expressions like squinting or raising the eyebrows. These wrinkles, known as dynamic wrinkles, can be treated with BOTOX® injections.
A Closer Look at BOTOX® Wrinkle Treatment
BOTOX® is a type of muscle relaxing injection that is injected to act as a type of nerve block. What is happening is that your brain sends a message to contract a facial muscle, leading to its characteristic appearance and the development of a wrinkle in that area. This treatment will block the reception of that signal so that the underlying facial muscle does not contract and form a dynamic wrinkle. This helps minimize the appearance of many lines and wrinkles that are the result of repetitive muscle contractions.
It is important to realize that the effects of BOTOX® are temporary in nature. At some point in the future, the effect will fade, and follow-up injections will be necessary for the maintenance of your wrinkle reduction results.
Some patients are alarmed when they hear the word BOTOX®. This product is actually completely safe and has been tested over the course of many decades with a proven track record of safety. It is formulated and made into a liquid injectable treatment in the safety of a medical laboratory. BOTOX® has been used safely for over five decades. It was once unaffordable for the masses, but the cost has come down and led to its increasing adoption as a wrinkle treatment over the last two decades. Allergic responses to the injections are extremely rare, and patient safety is our highest priority.
We have used BOTOX® on both men and women in Philadelphia to treat the area between the eyebrows, to smooth out wrinkles around the eyes, and to address the wrinkles on the forehead. The safe injections are also commonly used to prevent or treat various medical conditions.
The results of the treatment are designed to look natural. When you visit our office, you won’t get a frozen or unnatural look, as we aim to inject only as much of the product that is needed so that you can still make a full range of facial expressions without seeing the wrinkling.
